Out of Hours
Out of hours cover is provided by NHS England between 6.30pm and 8.00am and from 6.30pm Friday until 8.00am Monday. Patients will be offered appropriate advice or a consultation at Savernake hospital, if medically necessary a doctor will make a home visit. Telephone 111

The doctors and nurses are available for telephone advice. Please ring in the morning before 10.30am if possible, and the doctor or nurse will return your call

Cancelling your Appointment
If you are unable to attend an appointment with one of the doctors or nurses, please telephone  to cancel your appointment. By giving us as much notice as you can you are helping us to make sure that someone else is given your slot.

Coronavirus

The NHS in Wiltshire and Public Health England (PHE) are extremely well prepared for outbreaks of new infectious diseases. The NHS has put in place measures to ensure the safety of all patients and NHS staff while also ensuring services are available to the public as normal.

The risk to the general public is moderate. If you have arrived back to the UK from mainland China, Thailand, Japan, Republic of Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia or Macau within 14 days, follow the specific advice for returning travellers.

Call 111 now if you've been:

  • to Wuhan or Hubei Province in China in the last 14 days (even if you do not have symptoms)

    • to other parts of China, including Macau and Hong Kong, in the last 14 days and have a cough, high temperature or shortness of breath (even if it's mild)

    • to Thailand, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Republic of Korea or Malaysia in the last 14 days and have a cough, high temperature or shortness of breath (even if it's mild)
  • • in close contact with someone with confirmed coronavirus

Do not go to a GP surgery, community pharmacy or hospital. Call 111, stay indoors and avoid close contact with other people.

Like the common cold, coronavirus infection usually occurs through close contact with a person with novel coronavirus via cough and sneezes or hand contact. A person can also be infected by touching contaminated surfaces if they do not wash their hands.

The risk of being in close contact with a person with coronavirus or contaminated surfaces is very low at the current time, as members of the public who have visited Wuhan or Hubei province, China are currently in isolation.

Testing of suspected coronavirus cases is carried out in line with strict regulations. This means that suspected cases are kept in isolation, away from public areas of the hospital and returned home also in isolation. Any equipment that come into contact with suspected cases are thoroughly cleaned as appropriate. Specific guidance has also been shared with NHS staff to help safeguard them and others. Patients can be reassured that their safety is a top priority, and are encouraged to attend all appointments as usual.

Everyone is being reminded to follow Public Health England advice to:

  • • Always carry tissues with you and use them to catch your cough or sneeze. Then bin the tissue, and wash your hands, or use a sanitiser gel.
  • • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after using public transport. Use a sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available.
  • • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • • Avoid close contact with people who are unwell.

Norovirus

Norovirus, sometimes known as the ‘winter vomiting bug’, is the most common stomach bug in the UK, affecting people of all ages. It is highly contagious and is transmitted by contact with contaminated surfaces, an infected person, or consumption of contaminated food or water. The symptoms of norovirus are very distinctive – people often report a sudden onset of nausea followed by projectile vomiting and watery diarrhoea.

 

Good hand hygiene is important to stop the spread of the virus.

People are advised to:

  • Wash their hands thoroughly using soap and water and drying them after using the toilet, before preparing food and eating
  • Not rely on alcohol gels as these do not kill the virus

 An infection with norovirus is self-limiting and most people will make a full recovery in 1-2 days. It is important to keep hydrated – especially children and the elderly.

Do not visit either A&E or GPs with symptoms as this may spread the virus.

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into force in the UK on 25th May 2018. Under GDPR GP surgeries are ‘data controllers’, registered with Information Commissioners Office (ICO), who oversee data protection law in the UK. GDPR ‘right to be informed’ encompasses the obligation to provide fair processing and transparent use personal data.

In practice this means:

  • Telling you about the information we collect, how we use it and who we share it with.
  • Assuring you that your data will be safe, kept confidential and used appropriately
  • Enabling you to opt out of sharing your data at any time
  • Making you aware that you have the right to access your data

WE RECOMMEND YOU KEEP 2 WEEKS OF MEDICATION IN STOCK AT HOME SO YOU ARE LESS LIKELY TO RUN OUT

When ordering repeat prescriptions online, please be aware that we cannot respond to any queries made in the comments box.  Should there be a problem with your medicine request, a staff member will contact you directly.

Please note that any medicine reviews that require an appointment with the nurse or doctor will be instigated by the surgery.  Please ignore any "review" requests that appear when ordering your medicines online - thank you.

Named Accountable GP

Practices throughout the UK are contractually obliged to inform all patients of who their accountable GP is.

We have divided our patient list between Dr Rebecca Style and Dr James Downie, who are now the 2 Partners here. As a general rule, patients in the first half of the alphabet have been allocated to Dr Downie and those in the second half to Dr Style. For administrative purposes these will be the accountable GPs.

As before, however, everyone is free to see whichever GP they wish,
